new year’s eve
he liked spending time with God’s angels.
one afternoon he sat on a cloud with a few of them.
the angel named salina was in charge and she asked for a volunteer.
he raised his hand.
dulsi stood up and waved her hand and captured salina’s attention.
lana objected immediately.
“come on salina you know what happens to dulsi after she goes on these types of assignments.”
against her better judgment salina gave dulsi permission to go.
_____
it was new year’s eve and her assignment sat by himself in a bar and felt a tap on his shoulder.
“excuse me is there anyone sitting here?”
she sat down.
“i’m dulsi and i hope you’re not an axe murderer because my friend salina says i’m going to trust the wrong guy someday and he’ll turn out to be an axe murderer.”
he answered she was in luck since he planned to give up killing people for his new year’s resolution.
she touched his hand when she laughed and did something she was never supposed to do.
she drifted through his heart and soul and watched his whole life unfold from start to finish.
she fell in love with him.
he liked her too and everything was fine until he became dizzy.
she helped him back to his hotel room and his condition became serious.
she held him in her arms as he slowly died.
she used her angel magic to take away his physical pain and loneliness in his final moments.
afterward she called the front desk for an ambulance and returned home.
_____
dulsi sat alone.
salina came over to her.
“he was a beautiful person salina. i don’t like being there with them when they die. why can’t we just do this from up here?’
“i don’t know sweetheart.”
dulsi broke down into tears.
salina promised to transfer her to the medical miracles division because all their assignments have happy endings.
_____
he returned to their cloud in a few weeks to say goodbye to dulsi.
her transfer came through and it was time for her to leave.
they watched dulsi float into the heavens and turn into a star to wish upon.
it was the requirement for her new position in medical miracles.
