madame lafarge
his girlfriend told him she had a divine connection.
God wrote inspirational messages in her daily horoscope and emailed them to her every morning.
he asked “how do you know they're from Him?"
“because i feel His presence when i read them."
"well maybe they just inspire you."
"no you're wrong and madame lafarge says they're directly from God.”
madame lafarge was her spiritual advisor.
_____
he had his own divine connection he never told her about.
he talked and visited with God and his angels.
they were hallucinations but he believed they were true and actually happened.
he held back and waited for the right time to tell her.
_____
that night around three in the morning there was a knock on the door.
he went downstairs and opened it.
“i’m madame lafarge and i’d like to have a word with you.”
they talked at the kitchen table and she started the conversation.
“i understand she's told you about the horoscopes."
“yes.”
“i had to see you and make sure you didn't ruin everything.”
“ruin everything?”
“i’m the one writing them.”
“why are you doing that?”
"because she's been through so much pain and sorrow and was beginning to lose hope."
his girlfriend had told madame lafarge about her difficult life.
"she's the daughter i never had and my heart is breaking for her."
she stood up and was ready to leave.
“please don't discourage her from believing in her miracle."
“no of course not.”
he returned to bed upstairs and watched her sleep.
_____
she was a beautiful and sensitive girl.
he loved her innocence and trusting faith in the universe.
he held her hand and whispered "i believe you."
